Astrid and Jolanda were still naked, but at least they had something on their feet now. They had gone on a little walk through the forest, since they knew that nothing else was going to disappear if they stayed away from the river.
“Astrid!” suddenly said Jolanda as she stopped walking and waited for her friend to turn around, before continuing:
“Remember when you said that time travel sometimes causes strange effects? Well, I have an idea what might’ve happened.”
“What?” Astrid asked.
“Well — remember that frozen future your dad told you about?”
“What about it?”
“Well — maybe things are stuck in that time, and they’re always the same,” Jolanda said. “That could explain why our food keeps disappearing after we cook it!” she took Astrid’s hand and squeezed it tight, hoping to cheer her friend up a bit.
“Maybe these weird effects are really just normal things — but we’re just seeing them at an unusual time.”
Astrid looked up at the setting sun for a moment and then back down to Jolanda again. Then she started walking again towards the forest.
“Well, I’ve been thinking about that too,” she said. “What if — maybe everything looks real, but it’s not?”
